Don’t go bananas

Last year the first phase of our banana project could successfully be completed and the second phase could be started. During this second phase which lasts until February 2016 the distribution of the banana plants is taking place. Besides the cultivating and distribution of further banana plants different education seminars took place in which 150 people had been trained in the cultivation of bananas. The citizens of Kirinda and the surrounding villages can buy banana plants for 30 cent each. By these ongoing sales about € 320 could be earned so far.

We are now ( 2022 ) in phase 5 of the project. Some parishes that belonged to Kirinda were integrated into the project. The demand for seedlings is still very high.

Most of the bananas in the plantations weigh almost 100 kg. With the earlier varieties planted in the surrounding area, the yield was around 30 kg.
